Watauga County Schools
Exceptional Children's Program

Welcome

We hope that you will find many helpful resources here to aid in our collaborative effort to educate students with disabilities in Watauga County.

Our goal is to provide appropriate educational opportunities to all children in our district who have a disability and are in need of special education services.

Watauga County Schools offer the full continuum of services in the least restrictive environment for all students eligible for special education. Programs and services range from Student and Teacher Consultative and Co-Taught Classrooms to Specialized Classrooms. Each of our schools provide services for students with mild disabilities.  One school, Hardin Park, houses programs for students with mild, moderate and severe disabilities. Watauga High School provides the full continuum.

Related services are provided when required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.

Have you ever wondered about life after high school?

·         There are no IEP’s in college; how can I get the support I need?

·         What are my educational options after high school and how do I prepare for these options?

·         What about employment; are resources available to help me find a job I like?

·         What happens to my Social Security benefits if I work?

·         If my son/daughter will still need my support after age 18, how do I retain guardianship?

·         Are there options for supported housing or group homes?

·         What types of mental health supports are available?

·         What supports are available to parents?

·         What are my options for recreational activities?

Attend the Transition Fair and find out the answers to these questions and more!
