Watauga County Schools
Exceptional Children's Program

Welcome

We hope that you will find many helpful resources here to aid in our collaborative effort to educate students with disabilities in Watauga County.

Our goal is to provide appropriate educational opportunities to all children in our district who have a disability and are in need of special education services.

Watauga County Schools offer the full continuum of services in the least restrictive environment for all students eligible for special education. Programs and services range from Student and Teacher Consultative and Co-Taught Classrooms to Specialized Classrooms. Each of our schools provide services for students with mild disabilities.  One school, Hardin Park, houses programs for students with mild, moderate and severe disabilities. Watauga High School provides the full continuum.

Related services are provided when required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.

Forging an International Partnership for Exceptional Children
Teachers and administrators that work with exceptional children in Taxila, Pakistan are joining with their American counterparts in WCS to share ideas and practices for teaching exceptional children (EC). The Pakistanis focusing on EC students are part of a larger group from Heavy Industries Taxila Education City (HITEC) that includes educators in a range of subjects and grade levels. The HITEC visitors will be here for several weeks and then a group of educators from WCS will travel to Pakistan early in 2015 in the second part of this year's exchange program. The program is now in its third year and is funded by a grant awarded to ASU by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. Past participants in the program have praised it for greatly increasing mutual understanding and respect between Pakistani and American cultures
